The Town of Cardston is upgrading the aging wastewater treatment system to an advanced Membrane Aerobic Biofilm Reactor (MABR) technology to demonstrate the viability and benefits for small municipalities. The work scope involves detailed design, regulatory approvals, construction, installation, and commissioning of the MABR system. The project will be the first standalone, full-scale deployment of MABR technology in Western Canada, validating its performance and scalability for broader applications across Alberta and beyond. The project has strong environmental and social benefits relating to water quality and reliability, and reduction in negative impacts from wastewater treatment. It will validate MABR technology as a primary treatment technique for Alberta, benefitting other potential municipal adopters.
