The project will demonstrate the viability for scale deployment of a first-of-its-kind modular, adsorbent agnostic VPSA (vacuum pressure swing adsorption) carbon capture system using a baseline commercial advanced Zeolite and non-commercialized MOF (Metal Organic Framework) adsorbent within the system. This application is highly innovative and industry-leading in the world of small to mid-scale point source carbon capture.  The scope of the project includes the manufacture, factory acceptance testing, shipment and integration of the system into site buildings, and installation of the system onto a Tourmaline natural gas compressor engine at their Banshee facility outside of Edson, Alberta. The project has a goal to capture ~4 tons per day of CO2, which will then be recompressed and sequestered underground via Tourmaline’s on-site sequestration equipment.

The project is comprised of three project partners and a host partner. Cielo Carbon Solutions will handle the day-to-day of the project in close collaboration with CarbonQuest and Torumaline Oil. Captivate Technologies will manufacture and deliver the next-gen MOF.

Once fully complete, this project has the ability to showcase how, through technology, we can make the use of natural gas green in ways and settings previously non-feasible, helping to reshape the duality between resource extraction and use, besides environmental stewardship.
