For this project, Rokk Energy Technologies Inc. will demonstrate its Pad-Free™ multilateral system that includes two new patented technologies allowing multilaterals to be widely adopted in unconventional oil and gas reservoirs. The Casing Exit Coupling (CEX™) attached to the intermediate casing allows efficient and precise placement of a window through the casing to add an additional lateral. The Lateral Biasing Device (LBD™) orients the lateral liner so that it can be effectively cemented up to the intermediate casing. Rokk’s technologies create a novel, fully cemented and supported lateral juncture, otherwise subject to collapse. A Pad-Free™ multilateral well with three laterals replaces three traditional horizontal wells with a single well with three producing laterals.
During the project, Northern Smilodon Energy Inc., a Canadian operator, will add a second lateral to their new unconventional horizontal using Rokk’s Pad-Free™ multilateral system. They will be assisted by Rokk’s operations team which has 150 years of related experience. The completion of this well will result in both laterals being drilled, cased, fraced and on production. Specific data regarding flow, mechanical integrity, and zonal isolation will be collected over three months of operations to confirm success. This trial is the final step toward the commercialization of this very important technology. The technologies being developed will be built in Edmonton and sold worldwide.
