Pathways Alliance is the unprecedented collaboration among Canada’s six largest oil sands producers working collaboratively with Canadian and Alberta governments on an ambitious plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from oil sands operations by about 22 million tonnes per year by 2030, and to ultimately achieve its goal of net-zero emissions from operations by 2050. Its proposed foundational project is a carbon capture and storage network which could gather captured CO2 from approximately 20 oil sands facilities (w11 to start) and transport it to a hub in the Cold Lake area of Alberta for safe underground storage. The transportation line would also be available to other industries in the region interested in capturing and storing CO2.
