Storage tanks are a significant source of emissions in the oil and gas industry. Recent studies estimate that these tanks account for a quarter of all methane emissions from upstream oil and gas operations. The proposed project, Nitrogen to Eliminate Tank Venting, seeks to eliminate the practice of routine tank venting through the use of a nitrogen-driven twin turbine system. This simple yet innovative system pulls vent gas from the tank and diverts the gas to an end use (ex. reinjection into the gas line). The beauty of the system is its ability to recover the vapor without an external power source, making it especially suitable for remote locations. Over the project duration, Kathairos will finalize the engineering design of the technology, assemble the prototype, benchtest the technology and trial the unit in field conditions. The proposed project will determine the technical and economic viability of the technology in various field conditions.
