The purpose of this project is to complete the final step in the commercialisation of the ST Technology. A successful demonstration of a commercial-scale ST system under field conditions is the final step to launch the technology commercially. The ST Technology is designed to decontaminate soil using an innovative ex-situ electrokinetic process. Contaminated soil is excavated, decontaminated and replaced in the original excavation. This technology has great value for Alberta and elsewhere to reduce the costs of site decontamination, in particular, for inactive and abandoned oil and gas wells.

The project involves designing, fabricating, and operating a commercial demonstration system. The system will be operated under actual operating conditions at multiple contaminated oil and gas wells in Alberta that are undergoing reclamation. This commercial demonstration system will confirm the practicality and effectiveness of the ST technology as well as its highly favourable economic advantages. The learnings from the commercial demonstration will be used to refine the design, fabrication and operation of commercial systems. The ST technology has been developed by EKST, an Alberta-based company.
