Ruminant Biotech (RBT) has developed a proprietary slow-release bolus medication designed to reduce enteric methane emissions from ruminant livestock such as cattle. The bolus delivers a methane-inhibiting compound directly into the animal, targeting methanogens, a methane-producing bacterium, by disrupting key enzymatic pathways involved in methane production. Its controlled-release formulation ensures sustained delivery over time, while the biodegradable casing allows for safe breakdown and expulsion.
Over three years, this project plans to validate the efficacy, longevity, and safety of the medication. The project also plans to determine productivity and whether it affects fertility and reproduction. If successful, all data will be peer-reviewed and published alongside a robustly developed measurement, reporting, and quantification formula applicable to all enteric methane inhibitors operating in low-touch environments.
